Requirements (Under Review)

The purpose of Eta Kappa Nu is to promote excellence in the profession and in education through an emphasis on scholarship, character, and attitude. To be eligible for initiation in the Beta Mu Chapter you must meet one of the following criteria
  • Be a junior by credit hours with a 3.5 GPA or higher
  • Be a senior by credit hours with a 3.4 GPA or higher
  • Be a graduate student in good standing

Initiation Timeline

Eligible students will receive an email about a month after the start of each fall and spring semester. You will be asked to attend an info session and fill out a form online. You are considered an initiate once you fill out the form, and you will become a full, lifetime member after completing the following requirements.
  • Complete the Information Sheet online by TBA
  • Attend Trivia Night on TBA
  • Invite one professor to the initiation banquet by TBA
  • Attend lab supply packaging party on TBA
  • Pay one-time dues ($100 to pay for your lifetime membership and your banquet dinner) by TBA
  • Turn in Officer Signature Form by TBA
  • Attend the initiation banquet! TBA (GT Hotel)

Spring 2024 Officer Meetings

Get to meet the HKN officers and learn more about them and their involvement with the organization! You can get officer signatures at our weekly in-person officer meetings held every Monday 7:00 - 8:00 PM in Van Leer E361. We ask that you introduce yourself and have a quick chat about HKN before giving the officer your signature sheet to sign. Signature sheets are due on TBA. You can also meet with officers at their individual office hours starting the week of TBA through hybrid office hours. Check the Initiation Packet for more details. Good luck and see you around!

BENEFITS OF BEING AN HKN MEMBER

First and foremost, joining Eta Kappa Nu means joining an internationally recognized society of over 200,000 electrical engineers, computer engineers, and computer scientists. It’s a designation you’ll have throughout your career and something companies like to see on your resume.But there are a lot of other great benefits to joining the Beta Mu chapter at Georgia Tech. You’ll have access to our variety of social activities, corporate events, service projects, and much more.

Social Events

Social events give our members a chance to relax, have fun, and socialize with other members. Once you join HKN, there’s no obligation to attend these events, but we think you’ll want to! Here are some examples of past events:
  • Movie nights
  • Board game nights
  • Smash and Mario Kart on our Nintendo Switch
  • Ice cream socials
  • Tech Rec bowling
  • Dinners with ECE faculty
  • Study sessions
  • Hiking/Kayaking
  • Atlanta museum visits
  • Escape rooms

Corporate Events

As a member of HKN, you’ll be able to upload your resume to our HKN resume book, which we send out to our corporate sponsors each semester. Many of them host events with us and give HKN members priority for internships and co-ops.

Service Projects

Our chapter participates in Team Buzz in the fall and Tech Beautification Day in the spring. We are always looking for additional projects, so don’t be afraid to suggest service events!
